New kettle of fish for Army officer

AN ex-army officer is now the proud owner of Meltham Fisheries, a popular local chip shop in Holmfirth.

Lee Whiteley – who has previously catered for the Royal family whilst serving overseas – will now be serving up fish and chips following a £71,000 funding deal with NatWest.

But that’s not all – Mr Whiteley will be quite literally, out of the frying pan and into the fire as he goes on call at the local fire station across the road.

After serving for 24 years in the Catering Corps, Mr Whiteley and his wife decided that Meltham Fisheries was the perfect opportunity for the couple to run a business together and for Lee to utilise his catering skills.

Mr Whitely said: “It’s been hectic getting everything together so we can open around Meltham Memories Weekend. It is a very popular event and by far, the largest and busiest event of the year, so we are really going to hit the ground running.

“I am very excited about digging out my catering gear and putting my catering skills to use once again, and becoming further integrated within the delightful village community.”

The purchase included the chip shop and accommodation for Lee and his wife Yvonne who will be living next to their newly acquired chippy.
