Construction giants win £40m education contracts

CONSTRUCTION giants BAM and Galliford Try have won contracts worth just over £40m for Leeds educational institutes.

The University of Leeds has awarded Galliford Try the construction contract worth £30m to build its Nexus innovation and enterprise building.

The 100,000 sq ft building on Woodhouse Lane intends to encourage high-growth technology startups through its proximity and relationship with the University. It was given planning permission by Leeds City Council in September.

It is believed to have beaten BAM for the deal, according to Construction Enquirer, but BAM itself has won an £11m contract with the Elliott Hudson College to deliver its new sixth form centre.

It will refurbish a former data centre located on the White Rose Office Park.

This is one of many educational contracts BAM has won, including the Ruth Gorse Academy, UTC Leeds and New College Doncaster.
