IT group celebrates stategic success

REFRACTIV, the Normanton near Wakefield-based IT services group, is looking to expand its ‘2020 Vision’ seminar series following the hit success of its latest event.

Delegates at the recent session were given an insight into how lessons can be taken from the military on winning economic “tactical skirmishes” while keeping the strategic end-game in sight.

The seminar was delivered by guest speaker Colonel Mark Faulkner, ex-commander of The Royal Dragoon Guards, and an authority on battlefield planning.

According to Bill Twibill, managing director of the newly formed Refractiv group, the presentation was very well received – so much so that the firm is considering rolling out the seminar.

“I have a military background and have always thought military strategy and business strategy complement each other,” said Mr Twibill.

“So I contacted Colonel Faulkner who agreed to come and give a talk. The feedback has been very positive and people got a lot out of the presentation.”

Refractiv is currently rolling out a re-branding programme following its formation last year.

The group comprises of Sandford Technology, Virtronix and web services business Leap Frog.

The new company now offers its clients a broader range of services including IT security, application development , virtualisation and web site creation.

Mr Twibill, who was formerly managing director of Virtronix, said that although the market was challenging, customers were at the top of the group’s priorities.

“We are seeing great loyalty from both recent and well established clients, together with some from the past who are now returning,” he said.

“It’s interesting for us to see how many new customers start by asking us to deal with really urgent issues that really should already be under control.”

He said the merged group could now offer a broad range of technology solutions meaning that firms didn’t have to go to multiple suppliers.

The group, which currently employs 15 staff, is also looking for other organisations to add to its collective as part of a growth strategy.

“If the company meets our criteria then we would be interested in talking to them,” said Mr Twibill.
