New handset promises to keep remote workers in touch

INTECHNOLOGY, the Harrogate-based IT firm, has launched a “durable” mobile handset for use in remote and hazardous environments.

The tough new handset relied upon the firm’s latest ‘Push to Experience’ (PTX) technology for managing mobile workforces.

The Mobile Tornado BB3G is designed for use in noisy and outdoor environments such as construction, facilities management, transport and the emergency services.

As well as being an advanced 3G mobile phone, the Tornado handset incorporates a next-generation digital radio service – a natural successor to the traditional two-way radio (PMR).

Like a PMR radio, the Tornado has a dedicated ‘Push to Talk’ button, which enables the user to broadcast to every member of the team.

However, unlike PMR, which is primarily for voice communications, the
handset also includes SOS alert, messaging, presence and GPS
location tracking.

In the event of an emergency the dedicated SOS alert button alerts an operator of the incident and notifies them of the user’s current GPS location so they know where to send assistance.

According to InTechnology PTX has almost unlimited geographic coverage which makes it a perfect solution for organisations with large field workforces.

Richard Quine, director of product management for the firm, said: “Mobile communications is shaping up to provide organisations with what they actually need rather than relying on devices which are becoming out of date and inappropriate for the job.”

“Uniquely, PTX also allows office workers to communicate with their field
workforce from their PC rather than needing to use a handset. Most
importantly, it provides monitoring and security for lone workers with
constant communications, panic buttons and GPS tracking.”
