ONLINE greeting card retailer Moonpig has a new iPhone app built by Huddersfield developer Common Agency.
The app allows customers to customise Moonpig’s range of cards before sending them on the move.
Simon Howship, from Common Agency, said: “The app is flying and we are delighted with the success of reaching the number one spot in the lifestyle section on iTunes and the number five spot in overall apps.
“The thing that surprises me is how slow most companies have been in waking up to the enormous business potential that mobile devices offer, not just from Apple but also Google and Microsoft. This is in spite of the fact that most people that I meet have got a smartphone in their pocket and love using it.
“The majority of people that I talk to understand that their business needs a mobile presence to engage with their customers but most are baffled by the technology, think it is too expensive or just want an app so they can ‘tick’ that marketing box. Many companies are procrastinating and through lack of understanding they are relegating mobile to the marketing roadmap whilst their competitors reap the rewards.”

CHILLING technology company FireChill has signed an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement with Nasdaq-listed clean technology manufacturer Capstone Turbine Corporation which will see both parties working to produce ammonia absorption chilling packages, powered by microturbines for combined cooling, heating, and power (CCHP) applications.
Rotherham-based FireChill’s cooling products can recover the energy from the exhaust heat of the microturbine and effectively deliver free cooling.
Capstone is also to take advantage of FireChill’s PowerChill innovation – a pre-engineered, factory-tested packaged product providing uninterrupted cooling, heating and power.
Mark Gilbreth, Capstone’s executive vice president of operations and chief technology officer, said: “Capstone is delighted to be working with FireChill on future technology rich projects. We have already demonstrated that our products provide clean and reliable energy sources and can build sustainable energy development.”
Simon Clothier, Chief executive of FireChill, said: “Capstone is a company with a great set of products for us. They have a super-efficient turbine and we have a way of turning their waste heat into cooling without further energy input and at low or no cost.
“We can do this in a variety of ways and in a range of environments. This agreement with Capstone will allow us to explore what is really possible and we can now work smarter, faster and together to bring a more diverse set of usable, relevant green applications to market.”
