Gateway Plaza welcomes health service
AN NHS health centre, which is expected to attract 6,000 walk-in patients a year, is to be located within a major property scheme.
Quest Property and Landmark Development Project’s Gateway Plaza development in Barnsley has secured a deal with Barnsley Civic Healthcare to deliver the NHS health centre within the mixed use scheme.
Barnsley Civic Healthcare is a partnership with health service provider Primecare and Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
In a deal secured for Gateway Plaza by appointed agent, Smiths Chartered Surveyors, Barnsley Civic Healthcare has taken an 8,342 sq ft unit.
The health centre, which will open in the summer, will offer booked appointments with doctors and nurses as well as a walk-in service.
There will be capacity for up to 2,000 patients to register with the health centre and 6,000 people per year are expected to access walk-in care. The centre will also offer a minor injury and illness service as an alternative to visiting A&E.
The health centre forms part of the NHS’s broader plans for increasing the healthcare provision within Barnsley and is one of four new surgeries due to open in the next few years.
Chris Gilman, director of Landmark Development Projects, said: “Barnsley Civic Healthcare will be a welcome addition to our tenant mix at Gateway Plaza and will deliver a much-needed service to the town.
“Our scheme architects, Axis Architecture, have worked with the health centre team to design the centre and Browns Construction is currently undertaking the fit-out.
“With the offices now also at the fit-out stage and the hotel and restaurant scheduled for completion in November, the scheme is making fantastic progress.”
