Inventor takes the pain out of fuel misery

A YORKSHIRE engineer has invented what he believes will become a crucial device in preventing drivers making the expensive mistake of putting petrol into their diesel tanks.
Phil Cartwright, from Everingham, East Yorkshire, said more than 400 drivers a day caused thousands of pounds worth of damage by misfuelling and that £8m of fuel was wasted every year because of the problem.
To combat the problem, Mr Cartwright has developed FuelSure which prevents the insertion of the smaller diameter petrol pump nozzle into a diesel tank and also removes the need to screw and unscrew fuel caps.
Protected by international patents, Mr Cartwright has taken three years to develop the device, that is manufactured in Yorkshire and now ready for worldwide sales.
Mr Cartwright said: “We believe we have the best device on the market and after the technical experts at Halfords and the RAC gave their evaluation, they agreed FuelSure performs better than all competitor products.”
Mr Cartwright, who works for a breakdown organisation, added: “I set out to design a solution that was tough, fool-proof, easy to use and replaced your normal fuel cap.
“FuelSure is the only product that comes complete with a range of filler neck adaptors in the pack, fits over 90% of cars and light commercial vehicles on UK roads, and can easily be fitted by anyone in a matter of seconds.”
FuelSure will compete with three other misfuelling devices on the market.
Mr Cartwright said said FuelSure had attracted interest from a number of motor manufacturers interested in fitting it whenever a new car is purchased.
