Traidcraft founder to inspire Yorkshire firms

THE Fairtrade success story will be the focus of a talk by ethical businessman Richard Adams as part of Business Link Yorkshire’s ‘Be Inspired’ seminar series.
The talk on July 16 in Catterick will see the Traidcraft and Tearcraft founder talk about the success of both brands and the importance of social enterprises.
Mr Adams is recognised as one of the top people in the country who has had most impact in making the world a better place for his development of the concept of ethical shopping.
Traidcraft was instrumental in setting up the Fairtrade Foundation with more than 2,000 Fairtrade product lines now available.
In 2007, Fairtrade certified sales in the United Kingdom amounted to approximately £493m.
It was estimated in 2008 that around 70% of British adults could identify the Fairtrade Certification Mark – up from 25% in 2003. Two in three UK households now regularly buy at least one Fairtrade-labelled product.
Vernon Tolson, Business Link Yorkshire’s events manager, said, “Richard’s personal story and insight into Fairtrade will appeal to entrepreneurs from all sectors.
“He will highlight the key elements that make this a fruitful area for social entrepreneurs and also look at the various resulting spin-offs.”
This event starts with a buffet lunch and networking followed by the presentation and Q&A.
