Former Morrisons boss takes on meaty role

Hamburger chain Byron has taken on former chief executive of Morrisons Dalton Philips as interim boss following the unexpected departure of its last CEO.

Philips (pictured above during his Morrisons days) takes over at Byron from Andrew Manders, who was in the role for five months before leaving for “personal reasons” according to The Telegraph.

Philips joined the board of Byron back in December 2016 as a non-executive director, one of his first major roles since leaving Bradford-based supermarket chain Morrisons in 2015.

He presided over a £792m loss at the supermarket before he was ousted in favour of David Potts that year.

Andrew Manders, formerly of Fired Earth, replaced Byron chief executive Tom Byng who left to pursue other interests.

Byron was acquired by private equity firm Hutton Collins for £100m in 2013, and since then has doubled the amount of outlets and increased turnover to £80m this year.

In July 2016 the company came under heavy fire for aiding an immigration raid on its London restaurants by organising fake team meetings which led to the deportation of 35 of its own workers.
