6 things to do with the kids this half term holiday

Half Term At York Museums Trust
York Museums Trusts are putting on a wide range of events for the kids to enjoy over their week off. The theme will be chocolate at York Castle Museum, with an insight into York’s sweet past at daily events Chocolate: York’s Sweet Past, A Box of Hope and Meet the People. At York Art Gallery, the kids will be able to create fans and garlands and Yorkshire Museum are hosting a Viking themed week, with an art project to get involved in. Find out more here.

Family Crafts Workshop
St Marie’s Cathedral in Sheffield are hosting a family workshop on Wednesday May 31. The gang will be able to explore the cathedral’s Printed Impressions exhibition and create their own prints inspired by the venue. The venue will also be hosting guided tours throughout the day, giving you the perfect opportunity to do a bit of exploring. It is free entry, but booking is required. Find out more here.

Spring Into Action
Taking place from Saturday May 27 until Sunday June 4, the Spring Into Action event at Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, are offering hands-on activities throughout the half term holiday as well as the chance to try their military-style junior assault course. There will also be demonstrations to watch, including martial arts and sword skills. The venue is also hosting a Spy Academy, where kids will learn the art of disguise and how to follow clues. Eboracum Roman Festival
The Romans are set to return at York Museum Gardens from Thursday 1 until Sunday 4 June. The festival will host a range of exciting events, including weapon demonstrations, military parades and a camp showing what life was like during the period alongside stalls and food and drink to enjoy. Yorkshire Cosplay
If the kids love comics and all things sci-fi, they are bound to love the Yorkshire Cosplay taking place at Sheffield Arena on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 June. The family-friendly event is the perfect opportunity for you all to embrace your alter-ego. Get creating a costume and head along to see some of the incredible outfits of experienced cosplayers, as well as enjoying live entertainment, games to enjoy and even the chance to do a spot of cosplay yourself. Fashion School
The Hepworth in Wakefield are hosting a Fashion School for 11-16 year olds over the half term holiday, perfect for your budding designers. Textile artist Karen Logan will teach the kids how to design and make their very own masterpiece, as well as learning a variety of skills, from printing, felt making, sewing and embroidery. Kids do not need to be accompanied for the course, but it will cost £150 for four sessions, with a discount available if a sibling is coming along. Find out more here
