Multi-million pound transformation of vacant office block into hotel moves forward

A multi-million pound scheme to transform a 1960’s vacant office block in Headingley into a Premier Inn hotel is on course for completion next year.

Clegg Construction’s Yorkshire office is the main contractor for the scheme at the Arndale Centre.

The £6.2m contract on behalf of Schroder Real Estate Investment Trust (SREIT) involves the redevelopment of Arndale House – a 1960’s vacant office block comprising 4,000 sq m over nine storeys.

Work started in October 2016 to provide 96 en-suite bedrooms, reception and lobby area, restaurant and kitchen, alongside associated parking. The Premier Inn will open for business in the first quarter of 2018.

Premier Inn has confirmed 45 jobs will be created. The hotel is situated close to Headingley Stadium, University of Leeds and Leeds Becket University.

Simon Blackburn, Clegg Construction’s managing director comments: “We are very familiar with the Arndale Centre after completing £1million of work there in recent times. The scheme is progressing well and highlights our expertise within the leisure industry. The project is being carried out above a live retail centre and adjacent to occupied commercial offices; our dedicated site team is working closely with all parties to ensure a smooth delivery.”

This is the second Premier Inn Clegg Construction has completed, the first being a 118 bedroom hotel in Derby City Centre, which opened last year.
