Work has started on a £3m housing development on a brownfield site in Leeds.

Housebuilder Mandale Homes is building 12 homes in Micklefield, east of Leeds and close to Sherburn in Elmet and Garforth.

The Manor Chase scheme of three and four-bedroom houses is due for completion in April next year.

The site, on Great North Road in Micklefield, was formerly occupied by agricultural outbuildings.

Richard Harriman, operations director at Mandale Homes, said: “Not only is it a great  family-orientated community, with shops, a primary school and a pub,  Micklefield has probably the best transport links of almost any village in the country. As well as its own railway station and just a 20 minute train journey into either Leeds or York, the A1 (M) and M1 motorways are both practically on the doorstep giving easy access to almost anywhere in Yorkshire.”

He added: “Each new development Mandale builds is designed individually to ensure there is an aesthetic fit with the local surroundings. Not surprisingly there has been considerable interest in this development from potential buyers, and five of the 12 properties have already been reserved off plan.”
