Work speeds ahead on McLaren’s technology centre

The construction of McLaren’s new bespoke manufacturing unit within the 100-acre Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in South Yorkshire is gathering pace.

Sheffield-based contractor and developer JF Finnegan’s work on the 75,000 sq ft building for the supercar giant began on site in August with completion due next spring.

McLaren Automotive has committed to spending the next two decades at the AMP after agreeing a deal with land regeneration and property investment specialist, and Waverley masterplanner, Harworth Group.

The new composite technology centre, which will create around 200 jobs for the region, will build carbon-fibre chassis for future McLaren sports cars and full production will begin at AMP in 2018.  McLaren will join other high profile names on the AMP, including Rolls Royce and Boeing.

Gary Smith, managing director, JF Finnegan, said: “We are delighted primarily to be working with The Harworth Group again in an area where we have operated extensively in the last 10 years, but also to be constructing a building that will be used by such an iconic brand as McLaren is very satisfying.”
