Football club’s chairman stands down

York City chairman Jason McGill is to stand down from his role at the club.
The news comes just days after McGill announced he was selling his 75% share after the club’s supporters’ trust voted not to hand him its 25% holding.
McGill had wanted to take complete ownership in order to continue to financially support the club until it moves to a new stadium next year.
Th club said: “With immediate effect the chairman, Jason McGill, is retiring from his role and will have no further involvement in the running of the club.”
York City also said its CEO, Jackie McNamara, is also leaving with immediate effect.
“With immediate effect a new board of directors has been established to run the football club with the pressing need to produce a breakeven position whilst maintaining the aspiration of success,” the club said.
The new board comprises four directors:
Ian McAndrew, chartered surveyor, as stadium development director
Dave Penney, sporting director
Richard Adams, marketing and communications director
Steven Kilmartin, chartered accountant, who will join as managing director in due course.
The club said that Kilmartin, under secondment from Hentons, will also undertake a “thorough review of the club’s finances immediately”.
