Region’s most polluted towns and cities revealed

A number of Yorkshire’s towns and cities are at or have exceeded air pollution limits set by the World Health Organization, its new report has found.
The WHO data shows the areas across the UK which have fine particle air pollution levels above 10 micrograms per cubic metre, while also naming those that are at that limit.
However, while many UK towns had air pollution recorded at or above the WHO’s recommended limit, in a number of places the levels are falling.
From 2013 to 2015, levels fell from 17 micrograms to 12 in Sheffield, for example.
The Yorkshire towns and cities that exceeded the limit of 10 micrograms per cubic metre:
Scunthorpe: 15
Leeds: 12
York: 12
Sheffield: 12
Hull: 11
