Delicatessen near York Minster up for sale

A delicatessen close to York Minster, the Jorvik Viking Centre and The Shambles, is up for sale.

Specialist business property adviser Christie & Co has been instructed to sell Henshelwoods Delicatessen which operates from a Grade II Listed property.

The delicatessen has been in its current location for more than 25 years and owned and operated by Kirk and Ali Vincent for the last 12 years.

Kirk, the former head chef at Antonio Carluccio’s Neal Street Restaurant in Covent Garden, makes pates, terrines, soups, salads, quiches, tarts and other dishes for the deli, which are all prepared on the premises.

The owners said: “From our vantage point overlooking the daily market, we source the finest and freshest local and seasonal produce to go in to our in-house specialities. Coupled with this, we source for retail the very best ingredients and delicacies from near and far to fill our little corner of foodie heaven to the rafters. We’ve been in the catering industry for a lot of years now and as much as we still love it, we feel that now is the right time to hand over the reins and move on to pastures new.”

David Cash, senior agent at Christie & Co’s Newcastle office is handling the sale.

He said: “Yorkshire and York, in particular, continue to see huge visitor numbers and demand for home-cooked, locally sourced produce is stronger than ever. Henshelwoods has a fantastic local following which is bolstered by the seas of tourists descending on the city centre every day. The business would appeal to anybody with a passion for food and an eye for business. An already profitable going concern, the business has lots of potential and could be expanded depending on the new owner’s prerogative.”

Henshelwoods Delicattessen has been brought to the market at a leasehold asking price of £112,500 and an annual rental of £21,175.
