Turnover blossoms at Yorkshire flower group

JZ Flowers, the East Yorkshire-based flower company, has reported a £14m increase in turnover for the last financial year.
In company accounts published this week, detailing the 12 months ending 31 December 2017, the Newport-headquartered company saw turnover rise to £124.6m, up from the £110.6m total achieved for the previous year.
During this period, JZ Flowers also reported a slight increase in pre-tax profits to £5.04m from £4.86m in 2016.
As well as a base in Newport, the company also has operations in Lincolnshire, Holland, Ireland, Miami and Turkey.
JZ Flowers said: “Undertaking competitive product pricing within the marketplace, which combined with successful advertising campaigns, has resulted in achieving a growth in the market share.”
Going forward, JZ Flowers said that it plans to continue to trade in traditional markets and focus on developing the production facilities that are currently in use.
Established in 1997, the company’s founder Jelle Zwemstra had developed a career bringing flowers and plants across from Holland’s flower markets to sell to florists in Yorkshire.
