Plans submitted for new 678 apartment development

New plans have been submitted for the construction of a 678 apartment scheme on the outskirts of Leeds city centre.

Situated on the former office of British Gas, the proposed site is bound by Bridge Street, Gower Street, New York Road and Regent Street.

British Gas occupied the 1.39 hectare area until 2005. Almost all of the buildings on the site have now been demolished, with the exception of 1960’s podium and tower which is located at the southern edge of the site facing New York Road.

The tower is being redeveloped into a new hotel scheme, with work set to be completed in 2019.

Deloitte Real Estate, on behalf of Ease Treasure Holdings, submitted the plans for five new residential buildings to the Leeds council.

The buildings will range in height from 13 storeys to 31 storeys, comprising residential amenity areas, commercial units and associated car parking; public realm and landscaping; access and servicing arrangements; and other associated works.

The planning application states: “The proposals have been developed with input from a highly experienced and comprehensive team of specialist consultants with the intention of delivering a unique project which not only maximises the development potential of the site and directly responds to market demand but also delivers key policy objectives and statutory requirements.”

The scheme has been designed by architect SimonHaugh.
