Weekender: UK first Doctor Who escape room launches in city centre

The UK’s first official Doctor Who live escape room is opening in Leeds om Friday 25 January.

Located at The Light Shopping Centre, the escape room is being broughto the public by BBC Studios and Escape Hunt.

The game format comprises teams of up to six who become the Doctor’s friends and are transported to the offices of ChronosCorp HQ. Here, billionaire Alastair Montague’s efforts to develop commercial time travel have caused a tear in the fabric of space and time, which the Cybermen will use to attack Earth.

The players are then given 60 minutes to work out how to close the tear before the Cybermen break through, using only what remains of Montague, his prototype time engine and the collection of time-related artefacts acquired over the course of his experiments.

If the team fails to close the tear, the human race will be ‘upgraded’.

As well as being based at Escape Hut Leeds, the Doctor Who: The Live Escape Game will also be launched at additional Escape Hunt locations at Oxford; Manchester; Reading and Birmingham.

Launched in 2013, Escape Hunt operates close to 50 venues across 27 countries around the world.
