Where do you live/where are you from?

I was born and raised in Bradford. After a few years in London, I came back to Yorkshire and probably won’t leave.

What is your favourite place to visit in Yorkshire and why?

I am particularly fond of a few spots along the river at Upper Wharfedale. I have spent many hours contentedly fly fishing near Grassington. It’s so peaceful, the scenery is stunning and on a good day you can see brown trout, grayling and even the odd cray fish.

What is still on your “to do” list in the region?

I really want to improve my dry stone walling techniques. I’ve had a few lessons in Otley and have a long walling project on the go but could really do with some more tuition.

What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had in Yorkshire?

It has to be the meal Tim cooked for Louise and I back in 2011 over which we conceived our plans to go into business together, we were really fired up by the idea. Dinner was absolutely delicious, Tim’s an excellent cook.

What is your most Yorkshire trait?

Enjoying a good tale – both hearing and telling them. My daughter got married last summer and hopefully the wedding guests appreciated some of the stories I recounted about her and her new husband!

Favourite piece of trivia about the region?

One of my favourite pieces of trivia is that French man Louis Le Prince shot the world’s first moving pictures here in Leeds in 1888. There’s a blue plaque on Leeds Bridge commemorating the event.

What is your favourite cultural icon to come out of Yorkshire?

In my view Joseph Priestley (no relation) has to be amongst Yorkshire’s best. He was remarkable; not only a teacher, author, clergyman, philosopher and political theorist but he was the scientist who stumbled across photosynthesis and accidentally invented fizzy water.

What is one thing you’d steal from Lancashire (or other UK regions) if you could?

Eccles cakes. The perfect accompaniment to a piping Yorkshire brew.

What is the most overrated thing about Yorkshire?

That’s a trick question, surely? Yorkshire folk don’t overrate anything!
