Tata Steel at Meadowhall Business Park

A core team of the global manufacturers Tata Steel are to relocate to a multi-million pound Sheffield business park.

The steel giant has acquired a 12,000 sq ft office at ARBA Group’s recently refurbished Meadowhall Business Park.

The team comprises of core business support and “environmental testing functions.” It will move into the premises this summer following the completion of fit-out works. The team was previously located at Moorgate in Rotherham. 60 staff will be moving to the premises.

7,500 sq ft of open plan office accommodation remains at the site, which is already home to 13 companies and more than 500 staff.

Tenants at the 70,000 sq ft business park include GMB Union, Tuffnells, NG Bailey, Auburn Ainsley, Wilford Smith, and Eaton Commercial Property Consultants and Galaxy Insulation.

Richard Burns, director at ARBA Group, said: “The success of our development at Meadowhall Business Park confirms that high quality accommodation, which can be flexibly used, attracts tenants.”

Indian manufacturing giant Tata Steel is in the midst of merger discussions with German manufacturers Thyssenkrupp. They have been delayed as both companies attempt to get approval from European agencies, having initially signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) for the merger in September 2017.

According to publishers Bloomberg, both companies have proposed the sale of assets across their respective portfolios to win approval from competition bodies. This may mean the sale of unnamed sites in the UK, with the exception of Port Talbot which remains off the table, according to insiders at Tata.

The Sheffield office of Knight Frank and Campbell & Co are marketing the remaining space at Meadowhall Business Park.
