Global creative agency moves into new office to prepare for growth

A global branding agency has moved its Yorkshire studio Marshall’s Mill in Leeds to support its growth ambitions.

StormBrands started in Yorkshire in 1994 and now has growing studios in London, Leeds and Hong Kong, and clients all over the world in industries from aviation to food and retail. A total of 70% of the business is now global.

Previously based in Elland, the firm’s move to Lees was inspired by the city rapidly becoming a hub for the creative industries.

Bruce Drinkwater, CEO at StormBrands, said: “Many exciting organisations are relocating to Leeds. It felt like the right time for us to be immersed in the buzz and positive energy of this Northern powerhouse city.”

StormBrands said that being based in the small market town of Elland meant it was challenging to attract top creative talent. As the studio continues to expand, the team will need more space for growth, as well as improved transport links to streamline inter-office communications. While the former studio was over two floors, in the new offices, everyone will sit together in the same open space.

Jonny Westcar, Managing Director at StormBrands, added: “It’s been an exciting journey finding and adapting the right creative space, and Marshall’s Mill was the ideal spot. We now have an open-plan office and multiple communal areas on the top floor of the mill, which are perfect for our collaborative break-out sessions.

“There’s nothing better for designers than to work together within a space that has natural light and lots of character to inspire them.”

The studio has undergone immersive design stints and pop-up studios for clients across the globe, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Poland, the USA and throughout Europe.

“Design is a growing economic contributor and it’s down to businesses to work harder and set high standards. We’re proud of our vibrant business going against the grain, in what could be perceived as an inward-looking political atmosphere. We have no doubt our move to Leeds will have a positive impact for our existing clients and employees, as well as those we meet in the future,” added Westcar.
