Formal plans to be submitted for £7m petrol station and retail development
Developers have thanked the people of Thirsk and surrounding areas for their feedback on £7m plans for a new petrol station-based retail development on the edge of town.
BP Oil UK recently revealed proposals for a new petrol filling station, M&S Simply Food Store, a drive-thru Mc Donalds and a drive-thru Costa close to the A19, which will create around 70 jobs.
Over 150 people attended a public consultation on the proposals in Thirsk and Sowerby Town Hall, which was organised by BP and its planning consultants Lichfields.
Jonathan Wallace, senior director at Lichfields, said: “We were delighted that so many people took the time to come and talk to us about our proposals.
“The BP team and their development partners were on hand to share the vision for the site and we were delighted to receive so much feedback.
“We were also keen to listen to the views of local people on how the proposals could be improved. Some of these have been taken on board and we will be revisiting the scheme to see if they can be incorporated into the proposals.”
The development team is keen to hear additional views on the proposals and has established a website detailing the scheme, and a link to a questionnaire. This is open to the public until 31 December and can be found here: https://www.bpthirsk.co.uk/
Once the project team has analysed the feedback it will consider ways to further develop the scheme, with a view to submitting a planning application early in the new year.
The earmarked site is a parcel of unused land adjacent to the A170/A19/A168 roundabout; it is currently occupied by a bungalow and farmland.
As well as five fuel dispensers the BP petrol filling station will feature up to four electric vehicle charging points and a separate HGV fuelling facility. The M&S Simply Food Store will incorporate BP’s Wild Bean Café offer.
