Jonathan Thirkill is the CEO and founder of Leeds-headquartered customer experience optimisation firm, Boostify.
Where do you live/where are you from?
I’ve lived in Harrogate all my life, but I was born in Leeds.
What is your favourite place to visit in Yorkshire and why?
We’ve got the best countryside and views in the UK, so I love heading outdoors for a scenic walk. A little-known gem is Hackfall Woods, near Ripon.
What is still on your “to do” list in the region?
I’d love to enjoy a spa weekend and dinner at the recently opened Grantley Hall, in North Yorkshire.
What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had in Yorkshire?
It has to be the evening meal we had for my sister Stephanie and her husband Richie’s wedding, last year. The reception was held at ‘The Tithe Barn’ at Bolton Abbey and the food was delicious.
What is your most Yorkshire trait?
My determination! Us Yorkshire folk are built to be tough and don’t give up.
Favourite piece of trivia about the region?
Did you know that before the infamous ‘Terry’s Chocolate Orange’ there was a ‘Chocolate Apple’? It was first made in 1926 but was discontinued in 1954 due to the popularity of its orange counterpart.
What is your favourite cultural icon to come out of Yorkshire?
Yorkshire Tea – no other brand will do.
First experience of Yorkshire (for non-Yorkshire folk)
Betty’s in Harrogate. Also, here’s a top tip, if you arrive at 9.45am, you’ll likely miss the crowds.
What has been your worst experience, or what is the worst thing about Yorkshire?
That it ends. Wouldn’t it be great if Yorkshire was border-less?!
What is one thing you’d steal from Lancashire (or other UK regions) if you could?
Leeds United have had a promotion in their sights for a few years now. If we could steal some Premier League players from Burnley, that could help. For starters, Joe Hart in goal please.
What is the most overrated thing about Yorkshire?
Nothing is overrated about Yorkshire, it’s brilliant and ‘God’s Own County’!
