Weekender: New bar and restaurant launched

Twine & Barrel, a bar and restaurant, opened its doors last week following a £500,000 refurbishment of an old country pub on the A1079, just outside York.

It is based in the village of Dunnington with former Master Chef finalist and head chef, Dan Graham, at the helm and 20 new jobs created.

The business offers a complete all-day dining experience with the menus created by Graham. Visitors can enjoy breakfast, brunch, lunch, suppers and Sunday lunches all being served alongside an extensive bar menu.

Owners Richard Brosenitz and Roger Mann, who have lived locally for many years, wanted to open a restaurant which offered people an alternative to the many chains currently available.

They teamed up with local interior designer, Rachel McLane, to create an interior which features log fires, spacious dining areas and cosy corners.

A dedicated event space with a wi-fi connection is available to book for business meetings, functions and workshops and for special occasions and private parties, with plenty of free on-site car parking space available.

Mann said: “We wanted to create a space where families, groups of friends and businesses alike could meet any day of the week and enjoy delicious, wholesome local food in a stylish and comfortable environment.

“Our ethos is very much to provide high quality food with excellent service, and I am confident we have brought together a team that can deliver that with our head chef, Dan, and our general manager, Mark Deeming, having over 35 years of experience between them.”

Graham has worked for some of the world’s most famous chefs including Albert and Michel Roux Jr and has worked overseas at luxury hotels and villas in France and Greece before returning to Yorkshire to take over as head chef from James Martin at the Talbot Hotel in Malton.

Graham said: “I am really proud of what we have created at Twine & Barrel. We want people to visit us and know that whatever time of day it is, they’re guaranteed to be able to enjoy a tasty plate of food, snack or simply a good coffee or beer!

“There aren’t many places in the area where you can visit for either a breakfast business meeting, evening meal or Sunday lunch with the family.”
