Council leader quits

Sheffield City Council leader, Julie Dore, has announced she will step down from politics in May when elections take place.

The labour councillor who has been in office since 2000 and spent nine year in charge said: “that from a personal perspective, this is the right time for me to move on.”

Councillor Dore’s announcement comes just a fortnight after John Mothersole retired as chief executive of the authority.

She added:”I truly believe in what this city stands for – its values of solidarity, collectivism, hard work, integrity, humility, grit and determination, its character and most of all its people.

“I believe that there is no other city like Sheffield. I think its future is something that we must continue to fight for.”
