Partnership aims to keep Charity flying

Business leaders across the region are invited to take on the challenge of the county’s three peaks – Pen-y-Ghent, Whenside and Ingleborough by TheBusinessDesk.com.

The challenge will give teams 12 hours to complete the 24 mile mountain marathon and raise funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA).

The YAA requires £12,000 per day to stay in the air and helping people across the region. Founded in 2000, it now treats almost 1,000 people a year, saving countless lives.

Lee-J Walker, joint managing director of TheBusinessDesk.com said: “As a business we’re proud of our Yorkshire roots and keen to support the fantastic work of local charities.

“The work of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance is fantastic and other than the secondment of paramedics from the NHS Ambulance Service is completely run off charity. Therefore we wanted to create a charity challenge that was open to everyone in the business community and the response so far has been fantastic.”

Jim Whittaker, director at Grant Thornton who has already confirmed his participation added: “As a region we have some fantastic areas of natural beauty, including the three peaks and so it feels a fitting challenge to undertake to raise money for the YAA.”

Kerry Dwyer, Director of Fundraising, West & South Yorkshire: “Firstly a huge thank you to TheBusiness.com for choosing to support the Yorkshire Air Ambulance with its ‘3 Peaks Challenge’.

“We’re sure everyone who gets involved will find it a challenging but hugely rewarding event to get involved with. Events like this are essential to the YAA, and help us raise the vital monies we fundraise for every day of the year – £12,000 per day to be exact. We receive no direct government funding, apart from the secondment of our Paramedics and Doctors through the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust so rely heavily on groups, individuals and wonderful people like those at TheBusinessDesk.com to help us fundraise.

“We are so very grateful to everyone for their support and would encourage as many people as possible to get involved in what we know will be a great challenge!”

As well as raising money for the charity, this event – which will be led by qualified mountain leaders from Will 4 Adventure – will provide a fantastic opportunity whether for team building, networking or just to get out into our region’s great outdoors.
