Extra care provider to create 25 jobs

Jobs are being created in Boston Spa, Wetherby, this May with the launch of Housing 21’s latest Extra Care apartments for rent and shared ownership.

The latest details of the development, which is called Box Tree Court, comes as Housing 21 promotes its recruitment drive.

Its #TodayIWas campaign aims to encourage people in Wetherby and the surrounding area to consider a career in care and celebrate the numerous roles that care workers undertake on a daily basis.

Box Tree Court, where construction is currently underway, will offer 44 brand new independent living apartments with access to on-site care for people over the age of 55. Housing 21 is now looking for 25 health care professionals and domestic staff to join its team.

The Extra Care scheme is set to open its doors in mid-June and has been designed to provide accessible facilities for both residents and visitors, which include a café/bistro and hair salon for the community.

The court, which has a show home available for viewings, also benefits from a residents’ lounge, activity room, treatment room and communal gardens for residents and their guests.

Darren Wilson, housing and care manager, said: “Box Tree Court is going to be a truly stunning development in keeping with the surrounding buildings and with Boston Spa life. We are looking forward to providing an environment that supports people to maintain their independence for as long as possible, within a community that they can be extremely proud of.”

Kris Peach, Director of Extra Care at Housing 21, said: “I’m delighted to watch Box Tree Court develop and am looking forward to welcoming the new recruits very soon.

“Working in care requires integrity, commitment, the right values and beliefs. The values of the individuals are incredibly important to us, even more so than experience.

“Our care workers come from a range of backgrounds aside from care, however if they possess the right qualities, we will invest in them and provide the right training, which will eventually shape their career paths.

“Before joining us, many residents are completely isolated, so it is extremely rewarding to build a community where they can feel at home, and know you are making a real difference.”

Sophia Nakhooda, head of people and strategy at Housing 21, added: “We’re passionate about being a driving force for positive change for care workers, which is why we recently introduced guaranteed hour contracts and why we’re committed to pay our care workers at least 10% more than the National Living Wage.
