Free city centre car parking rolled out for key workers

Car parks in the city centre managed by Sheffield City Council are now free to use for key workers, as identified by the Government.

This includes all off-street parking owned by the council. The new policy will be in place until 13 April, when it will be reviewed.

The council has already provided permits for free on-street and off-street parking for NHS staff in conjunction with the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This further suspension of charges will enable other key workers to take advantage of free parking.

The Council car parks available to key workers without charge are:

  • Broad Lane
  • Brook Hill
  • Carver Lan
  • Carver Street
  • Copper Street
  • Ebenezer Street
  • Eldon Street
  • Fitzwilliam Street
  • Rockingham Street
  • Science Park B
  • Silver Street
  • Stanley Street
  • Trinity Street
  • Wellington Street
  • Wicker Lane
  • Willey Street
  • Workhouse Lane
  • Parkers Lane
  • Spooner Road
  • Alderson Road
  • Stewart Road

Councillor Bob Johnson, cabinet member for transport and sustainability at Sheffield City Council, said: “This a very difficult time for everyone in Sheffield and whilst we encourage everyone who can stay at home to do so, we understand that some key workers need to continue to travel into the city centre for essential work.

“Therefore we have decided to make this as stress-free as possible by suspending the charges on all council car parks for key workers.

“We are working hard to support essential workers in our city in their work delivering vital services across Sheffield. I would like to thank all of our key workers for their dedication and effort during this pandemic.”
