Coronavirus update – the latest news from Yorkshire businesses

Graphic display specialist Leach has made its first foray into online retailing, with the release of a ‘social distancing’ product line.

Leach has pledged to support those organisations which remain open currently and require essential Coronavirus-related graphics, as well as retail, hospitality and leisure brands which will be looking to install such signage when outlets begin to re-open.

Since the onset of the UK’s COVID-19 pandemic, the Yorkshire-headquartered company has seen a surge in demand for informative window, floor, and wall graphics.

The firm is now printing hundreds of stock visuals which can be purchased through a dedicated virtual shop.

James Lavin, managing director at Leach, said: “If you do venture out to buy essentials, no matter where you’re headed – be it a local shop, supermarket or pharmacy – most will have a poster on the wall or markings on the floor reminding you to keep your distance.

“And, when the world eventually manages to emerge from this pandemic, our lives – and the way in which we socialise – will inevitably change, not least in the short term.

“As such, these infographics will become an integral part of our lives, in the same way that ‘no smoking’ or wayfinding signs have.

“Although some firms need these graphics now, I have no doubt museums, restaurants, retailers and the exhibition sector will recover – and will each want to make sure that they have all the necessary signage, communications and branding in place when that time comes.

“And the procurement of such collateral needs to be simple, and hassle-free.”

HEY Credit Union, a not-for-profit savings and loans organisation serving the Humber Region and beyond, says it remains in action, despite operating behind closed doors.

The credit union is still taking on new members, opening savings accounts and granting loans to members as usual, but using different contact methods.

John Smith, chief executive, said: “Our branches in Hull, Goole, Bridlington, Driffield, Beverley, Withernsea and Scunthorpe are closed to the public at present as a safety precaution to stem the spread of Coronavirus.

“But the HEY Credit Union team are working hard behind the scenes to make sure our members can continue to access their accounts, transfer funds and apply for loans during this difficult time for everyone.

“If members’ finances have been affected because of Coronavirus, we are encouraging them to get in touch; we are here to listen and try to find helpful solutions.

“I’d like to thank our members for their understanding and loyalty, and all our staff and volunteers for their efforts to keep our services running during these challenging times – the amazing feedback that we’re getting from our members shows how much they appreciate the team’s hard work.”

More than 2,700 Rotherham businesses have received Covid-19 Government financial support worth over £30m in the last few weeks alone, according to the town’s council.

However, a spokesman for the council said it knows many more companies entitled to this help have not yet made a claim.

He added: “To help us get the support to businesses as soon as possible, we are asking all businesses who meet the eligibility criteria for the reliefs or grants to complete a simple claim form.

“Businesses can check if they are eligible on our website.

“If you know someone who owns a business, or work for one of the companies eligible for support, we’d really appreciate it if you could share this information.”
