Morrisons extends contract with logistics provider

Logistics company Wincanton has extended its relationship with Bradford headquartered supermarket chain, Morrisons.

Morrisons has awarded Wincanton the management of its transport and Vehicle Maintenance Unit (VMU) operations at Willow Green, Bridgwater, which start later this year.

This substantial contract extension will involve the TUPE transfer of over 250 staff from the existing provider to Wincanton.

In addition, Morrisons and Wincanton will partner to improve logistics activities and service to Morrisons stores.

In 2019, Morrisons awarded Wincanton the management of three transport and five VMU operations through its fleet management business, Pullman Fleet Services.

This initial contract involved the TUPE transfer of over 550 staff from Morrisons to Wincanton in order to service sites at Gadbrook, Wakefield and Stockton (transport and VMU) and Latimer and Sittingbourne (VMU).

James Wroath, CEO of Wincanton, said: “In these challenging circumstances affecting businesses across the UK, we are delighted to build upon our reputation for excellent implementation and quickly extend the scope of Wincanton’s much valued partnership with Morrisons.”

Craig Taylor, logistics director at Morrisons, said: “We are pleased to be expanding our relationship with Wincanton, who have shown strong commitment to Morrisons and embraced our plan for logistics.

“We look forward to an exciting future together.”
