Former school site earmarked for dozens of homes

Plans for 72 new homes on a derelict 12-acre site in the North Leeds suburb of Adel have been released and a public consultation launched.

Local developer Advent Developments is working on a full planning application for the proposed redevelopment of a former school site and listed buildings between Tile Lane and East Moor Lane.

The listed buildings, comprising the historic quadrangle and chapel, will be converted to provide 28 homes. A further 44 properties, including affordable homes, will be positioned around the site while respecting the existing trees.

The scheme includes extensive landscaping and habitat improvements as well as improved footpath links and protection of the greenbelt.

In addition to the new housing the plans incorporate an 80-bed nursing home.

Tim Reeve, managing director of Advent Developments, said: “The listed buildings have fallen into disuse and redevelopment of the site is long overdue.

“Our aim is to deliver a sensitive, sustainable, design-led regeneration of the derelict site and buildings to create high quality family homes, including affordable homes, as well as a much needed nursing home facility.

“We are launching this consultation to seek the views of the Adel community and we hope they will welcome this regeneration project.

“Advent has extensive experience of converting listed buildings, particularly former schools, and enjoys a strong reputation for delivering sustainable residential schemes and a commitment to collaborative working.”

Councillor Barry Anderson said: “The East Moor Lane site and buildings are a blight on the landscape.

“As Adel Ccouncillors we have a responsibility to our constituents to lobby the council to ensure this land is developed into a great place to live.

“We are pleased that specialist developer Advent has taken on this important project and is looking to retain the listed buildings and produce a well thought out and imaginative scheme.

“Advent has engaged with us early in the design process and we support these proposals which we hope receive the backing of the local community.”

The architects for the scheme are Leeds-based West and Machell. ID Planning is  advising on the planning application, which will be submitted later this year.
