Freaks of nature, a plant-based desserts producer has launched into the foodservice market after its free-from, vegan desserts became established in top retailers.

The Ossett-based brand in partnership with Cognosco, a foodservice and convenience marketing specialist, is making its award winning products available to restaurants, hotels, pubs, contract caterers and independent stores.

Tim Higgins.commercial manager at Freaks of Nature said the new partnership was a “hugely exciting development”.

He added: “The plan-based market is seeing strong growth as more and more consumers switch their diet to include at least one plant-based meal a week. Therefore, it is crucial to be able to offer traditional family favourite desserts that meet all dietary requirements on your menu.”

The range which includes a chocolate fudge hot pudding, sticky toffee pudding and Bramley apple crumble are made at the firm’s gluten and dairy free-factory – which is said to be Europe’s largest – before being delivered frozen. Trade customers can then simply heat in the microwave.

The brand was founded by Peter Ahye and has since grown to sell its products directly and via own label lines to major retailers including Asda, Morrisons, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, M&S, CO-OP and Waitrose.

Speaking to TheBusinessDesk.com earlier this year when the firm announced a £1m investment in its manufacturing facility, he said the firm was seeing production volumes up 100% “despite being held back by Covid-19” and that this was expected to continue.
