Magnetic gear manufacturer attracts Government grant

Magnomatics, a Sheffield-based magnetic gear technology specialist, has secured grant funding of nearly £200,000 from the Government.

The support is specifically from Catalysing Green Innovation, part of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund and the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV), who are collaborating to invest in innovation projects that will drive the UK’s continued push towards net zero.

These are six-month rapid-delivery projects to develop on-vehicle and charging technologies that will secure the future of the zero emission vehicles (ZEV) industry in the UK.

They are part of the wider effort to catalyse the green economic recovery in transport, energy and industrial sectors.

Magnomatics will use the funding to further develop its Magsplit technology, which gives a continuously variable transmission (CVT) function between drive belts and air conditioning compressors, ultimately reducing emissions on larger vehicles, specifically buses.

The company says it plans to continue investing in technologically advanced solutions that can go a long way towards supporting the Government’s plans for a sustainable future.

David Latimer, CEO of Magnomatics, said: “We are excited to have received this grant funding, which comes on the back of six-figure funding received to develop another product in our portfolio.

“It not only further cements our lead in the sector but plans to fast track the UK’s green revolution and the Government’s emissions targets.”

Magnomatics was formed in 2006 as a spin-out from the University of Sheffield. The company is commercialising novel products based upon highly efficient proprietary magnetic gear technology.

Magnetic gears are contactless and therefore very efficient over a broad range of speeds.
