Weekender: A tasty treat at home

With lockdown over and a return to the tier system some parts of Yorkshire are able to return to the joys of restaurants and pubs. But for vast swathes – the whole of West and South Yorkshire as well as the Humber, not much has changed.

So this week’s weekender is a look at some of the fantastic meal prep kits that have been launched by the hospitality industry so far…

Editors note: all of these are in Leeds but many are available for delivery across Yorkshire

Rudy’s Pizza

Let’s be frank pizza is one of life’s great pleasures (at least for this writer). I was lucky enough to go to Rudy’s when it launched in Leeds earlier this year and now the it is bringing its brand of delicious Neapolitan pizza to home kitchens. You can of course order via Deliveroo if you want but I tried the bake at home selection which includes eight different versions including some vegetarian and vegan friendly options. They arrive chilled and can be frozen but what’s best is simply heat your oven to 220c and cook for 7 minutes for a tasty treat. https://shop.rudyspizza.co.uk/

Sarto

Sticking with the Italian theme, Sarto pasta is offering a selection of fantastic dishes including the rigatoni with lamb shoulder ragu or radiatori, kale & hazelnut pesto, pangrattato. What’s amazing is you decide when you place your order how many people you want to feed from one to four and they’ll send the appropriate size pack. This restaurant only opened in 2019 and as they say “it was going great” until Covid. But these at home kicks are proving popular and selling out fast so make sure to give them a try. https://sartopastakits.online/

The Owl

The Owl is the first ever pub in Leeds Kirkgate market and is from the creators of the acclaimed restaurant HOME. It normally offers simple British food full of tradition and flavour and for December it is bringing those dishes to your kitchen with Owl@Home. Its range of experiences range from the ‘classic’ box which contains four courses for two people or the ‘signature’ option which includes five premium courses plus petit fours for two people and some festive specials. The boxes are available from Thursday to Saturday and range from £55. https://www.theowlleeds.co.uk/owl-at-home/

The Tetley

The Tetley like many remains closed but if you have the hankering for a 3 course Sunday dinner they’ve launched the Sunday Roast Box (which feeds two people), which includes all the ingredients and east to follow instructions from its head chef Rob Kaye. The boxes are available to order for collection from The Tetley between 12pm and 6pm on Saturday or for home delivery between 3pm and 7pm on a Saturday. It’s latest menu included Tetley Ale rested roast beef with all the trimmings and sticky toffee pudding! https://www.thetetley.org/bar-kitchen

The Alchemist

And after you’ve ordered some of this delicious food you’ll want something to be able to wash it down with. The Alchemist bar has created the cocktail gift box which includes four cocktails that you simply need to pour over ice and include a Smokey Old Fashioned and the Lightbulb Moment for £29. https://shop.thealchemist.uk.com/

Dine
And if you’re looking for something on a corporate scale, Dine Delivered, allows you to build event menus online for any occasion. However the team has also created the Lockdown Dinner Club which sees the award-winning Dine chefs creating a weekly menu that is delivered to your door on Fridays via DPD anywhere in the UK. You then simply heat, garnish, serve and enjoy. https://www.dine.co.uk/events/dine-delivered/
