£1m tutoring contract set to recruit for national learning programme

HR and employment law consultancy, Howarths, has teamed up with White Rose Maths to recruit tutors for a national education programme to support disadvantaged children most affected by the pandemic.

West Yorkshire-based Howarths will help with the recruitment of a cohort of tutors by the Halifax-based organisation – part of Trinity Multi Academy Trust – after it was awarded a £1m contract to become one of 32 Approved Tuition Partners by the Education Endowment Foundation.

It forms part of the £76m National Tutoring Programme.

To become an Approved Tuition Partner, White Rose Maths faced a rigorous assessment and review process to demonstrate it could meet and exceed a range of criteria, including the ability to collaborate with schools, deliver curriculum-relevant tutoring and reach as many disadvantaged pupils as possible.

Schools can choose between different Tuition Partners and a variety of models, including face-to-face and online tutoring.

It is estimated that approximately 15,000 tutors will be available, with tens of thousands of pupils to be enrolled in the first six weeks, with provision increasing further after Christmas.

Gavin Howarth, managing director at Howarths, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with White Rose Maths to help them recruit tutors that will help schools across the country deliver this important programme.

“Our HR projects team is already working with the team at White Rose to support with job profiling, assessment centres and the recruitment and onboarding of new tutors to ensure the timescales for the delivery of the project are met.

“White Rose aims to reach 3,000 children across 220 schools between January and July 2021.”

Caroline Hamilton, head of White Rose Maths, said: “White Rose Maths is an important member of the Trinity MAT family and we are proud that this friendly, skilled and inspiring team has been chosen to expand its support for schools and pupils in these very challenging times. It means a lot to us to make a real difference.

“We’re tremendously excited about being part of the new national initiative to help the most disadvantaged children progress and flourish with top quality tuition.”
