Regeneration creates dozens of apartments in listed city building

Work on Centenary House, a new apartment scheme delivering 80 apartments in Leeds’s Northern Quarter, is near to completion.

The scheme, brought by developer and purchaser Avenir Works, has resulted in the refurbishment of a Grade-II listed building and construction of a new build block located on North Street just outside Leeds city centre.

MAC Construction Consultants was appointed to deliver Employer’s Agent, Cost Management and CDM review services on the project.

Consisting of studio, one-bed and two-bed apartments, the complex provides a mix of high-specification homes with open plan kitchens, as well as communal, workout, office, and meeting spaces.

There is also a ground floor space for either retail, commercial office or residential use.

Centenary House was first constructed in 1904 as a public dispensary, and the refurbishment has brought the building back to life.

Barry Smith, director at MAC Construction Consultants, said: “This residential project is a significant addition for the city, as it has regenerated a beautiful building close to the centre of Leeds.

“It’s been a real pleasure to work alongside the Architect, Structural Engineer and Landstock, the Main Contractor, on this project from pre-construction to the finished project.”
