City briefs: Getech Group and Softcat

Getech, which provides data, knowledge and software to the energy industry, has secured a multi-year licence agreement for its Globe product with a national energy company.

The deal follows completion of the customer’s first year as a Globe user and adds £563,000 to Getech’s current orderbook.

An additional option has also been agreed that enables the customer to purchase other Getech data modules, which would enhance and extend its use of Globe.

Jonathan Copus, chief executive officer of Leeds-based Getech, said: “Getech is committed to working in partnership with our customers so our skills and technologies are closely aligned with their most pressing business needs.

“Through this approach Getech has demonstrated Globe’s value to this new customer, who has then made a multi-year commitment to Getech’s technology.

“In 2021, investment in Globe will be focused on delivering new tools and content that strengthen the product’s core offering and promote its diversified use across the mining and geothermal sectors.”

IT infrastructure technology and services provider Softcat says its trading has continued to be positive since its quarter one statement on 16 November 2020.

The business, which has offices in Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and London, has published an update on trading ahead of its interim results for the six months to 31 January 2021.

It notes: “Demand from our public sector customers has remained strong. The corporate picture has continued to improve but is also somewhat mixed, with some customers pursuing large projects and others taking a more cautious approach.

“Ongoing investment in our multinational and technical capabilities, which continued throughout 2020 despite the challenges of Covid-19, has enabled us to play an important role in these large projects with both corporate and public sector customers.

“Much still needs to be done in the second half of the financial year which remains difficult to forecast, but with the seasonally important December trading period behind us we are significantly ahead of where we expected to be at this stage.”

Softcat’s interim results will be announced on Wednesday 24 March.
