Prominent city sites acquired for redevelopment

Ambitious proposals are being developed for two prominent Sheffield sites by developer Grantside.

The company, founded in 1993 but recently relaunched with a focus on sustainability and integrity, is behind the proposals on Norfolk Street in the city centre and Bowling Green Street, Kelham Island.

Plans are in development for a new concept of co-living and working space at the Bowling Green Street site, which would see small commercial spaces alongside shared facilities, open courtyards and private apartments, meeting the growing needs of people looking for flexibility and a sense of community.

The living, working and leisure space will be curated to provide the next generation of mixed-use space.

Meanwhile, the Norfolk Street site, which is in the heart of the city centre, will aim to assist Sheffield City Council meet its carbon-neutral targets by creating modern, sustainable office space.

Both projects are the first in a new era for Grantside, after CEO Steve Davis set out to begin creating low and zero carbon places to live and work across the UK.

Davis said: “Both these sites can help Sheffield continue its progress as a forward thinking and ambitious city and will include features to ensure they are successful in the post-Covid world.

“There is still a place for modern offices to encourage collaborative and creative working from businesses and our Bowling Green Street project will offer a new concept in living and working, which we feel there is an appetite for in a modern, ambitious city such as Sheffield.”
