Work completes on 30,000 sq ft of offices for Highways England

Regeneration business, Peel L&P has reached practical completion on 30,000 sq ft of office space for Highways England at Calder Park in Wakefield, after agreeing a 15-year lease.

The offices, which spread across a two-storey building and cost £7m to build, are set to open to Highways England employees in June 2021.

The building will accommodate a number of Highways England’s operational staff responsible for managing the road network across Yorkshire and the North East.

Andrew Farrer, development manager at Peel L&P, said: “We’re pleased to have reached completion on the new office space for Highways England at Calder Park which has been delivered on time and on budget, despite the challenges we’ve all faced in the last 12 months.

“We look forward to welcoming them to the park as we move forward into a world post-Covid.”

Calder Park is set in 240 acres of land and has detailed planning consent for a total of 1.5 million sq ft of business space.

The site incorporates a 100-acres of dedicated nature reserve. On-site amenities include food and drink outlets and a 74-bed Premier Inn.

Other occupiers include West Yorkshire Police, OE Electrics, Miller Homes and Taylor Wimpey.

Richard Marshall, Yorkshire and North East regional director, Highways England, said: “We are really looking forward to working from this new office which sits alongside one of the country’s key motorways.

“Despite the issues of a pandemic, everyone has worked really hard to complete this build on time and have it ready for our teams to occupy.

“This office space will help bring together our own teams and suppliers so we can maintain excellent levels of customer service, delivery and safety for our customers.”

The building was project managed by Richard Bates of Peel L&P, constructed by Clegg Construction and designed by Bate & Taylor Architects.
