Consent given for nearly 100 homes

Richborough Estates, in partnership with Redrow, has secured planning permission for 95 new homes in the centre of Harrogate.

Accessed from Claro Road, the homes will follow on from Redrow’s Devonshire Gardens development on adjoining land.

There will be a mix of terrace, detached and semi-detached family homes with 38 affordable properties.

Jonathan Bloor, Richborough Estates’ managing director – Western Division, said: “We’re really pleased to have secured planning consent to enable delivery of this latest development.

“The site was allocated for residential development in the 2020 Harrogate District Local Plan, and our planning application was shaped by extensive stakeholder consultation.

“These high-quality homes will help meet Harrogate’s housing requirement with provision for people on all stages of the property ladder.  We look forward to seeing construction get underway.”

John Handley, managing director of Redrow Yorkshire, added: “Redrow is delighted to secure planning permission on this fantastic site in the heart of Harrogate, continuing our commitment to delivering high quality new homes in the town.

“In partnership with Richborough we have overcome a number of technical and environmental constraints to create a development in our distinctive style and with our customary levels of craftsmanship, quality and strong placemaking.

“Alongside our new homes we will provide high quality green space and incorporate a new footpath and cycle greenway to connect our new development and other housing allocations in the area with both Harrogate town centre and The Stray.

“Other community benefits of our development will include the affordable housing, additional tree planting and education contributions totalling just over £500,000.”
