Pharmaceuticals company launches new cleanroom facility

Global pharmaceutical solutions provider, Origin, has opened a high-capacity aseptic facility for filling, labelling and packaging IVDs (In Vitro Diagnostic) and healthcare products in Melton, East Riding of Yorkshire.

The business says demand for Life Sciences and Diagnostics is emerging quickly, spurred on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The UK is rapidly expanding as a world leader in these two industries.

However, Origin says to continue to excel in these sectors and lead the way in global scientific advancement, the UK must build on its aseptic filling capabilities particularly for In Vitro Diagnostics.

In response, it has invested in its aseptic filling facility at its HQ in Yorkshire, which includes seven ISO 5 (Class 100) cleanroom environments and an ISO 7 (Class 10,000) packaging hall.

This liquid filling facility has been designed to meet and surpass the stringent regulations laid out by ISO standards.

The result is a cutting-edge space dedicated to the automated filling of liquid vials, which with the careful application of microbiological contamination control principles avoids any harmful bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms from entering.

It follows the unveiling of Origin’s new state-of-the-art warehouse facility in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, creating more stock holding for its UK and international pharmaceutical clients, as well as the company’s own manufactured products that are supplied globally.

This larger warehouse capacity will enable Origin to create a more efficient pharma packaging supply chain in the long-term and protect against delays caused by Brexit and the pandemic in the short-term.
