Approval sought to increase budget for leisure facilities refurb

A decision set to go before Hull City Council’s Cabinet will allocate the funds for the Albert Avenue Pools refurbishment, including the return of the lido, if agreed.

The city’s next major leisure refurbishment project also proposes an ambitious remodelling of the site, with the new outdoor lido to replacing the existing one, which closed 25 years ago.

The works also include the construction of a new double-storey gymnasium and fitness studio and the renewal of all the site boilers and filtration systems and ventilation system, along with refurbished changing rooms.

Approval is being sought to increase the budget for the works to £9.2m in a notice of a decision to go before the council’s Cabinet next month.

Councillor Daren Hale, leader of Hull City Council, said: “The proposed return of the lido has caught the Hull public’s imagination and also attracted plaudits nationally. Alongside this, a new state-of-the-art gymnasium will bring the finest facilities to Albert Avenue and west Hull.

“There is also no point in doing half a job and fixing new systems to old, so we have decided to completely renew the plant and equipment meaning Albert Avenue has a long-term certain future and will prove more attractive to the disabled, older adults, young people and families.”
