A new chain of high-end and advanced fitness clubs is set for launch with the first site opening in Manchester.

Backed by serial Yorkshire entrepreneur and investor, Matt Haycox, GSquared has been described as ‘one of the most advanced gyms in the world’ merging fitness with a focus on other aspects of health and wellness.

As well as a state-of-the-art gym, the facility includes infra-red saunas, soundproof sleep pods, luxury yoga studio, sauna rooms and is also introducing the BodPod, a body composition machine that calculates body density and fat percentages.

The Manchester site is based in the 12,000 sq ft former Branagans unit in the Royal Exchange. It combines opulent interiors with cutting-edge innovation and membership will be limited to only 800 people.

Entrepreneur and property investor, Haycox, has backed GSquared with a six-figure investment.

He is a well-known Yorkshire-based entrepreneur. He built a multi-million pound strip club including Wildcats, one of Britain’s most successful chains of lap dancing clubs before losing it all during the financial crash in 2008.

He has since spent over a decade helping others with his advice and investing in new businesses and now plans to expand the luxury gym brand across the UK with five additional clubs within the next 18 months in Leeds, Newcastle, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The business expects to invest £5m in its sites over the next three years.

Haycox said: “Despite the ups and downs of my career I have always tried to follow my instinct for future trends and identify markets that are currently underserved.

“Twenty years ago, there was a culture and demand for strip joints which my business at the time fulfilled.

GSquared aims to open sites across the UK

“Today, post-Covid and in a new era where mental and physical wellbeing is at the top of all our agendas, I believe there is huge demand in the UK for what GSquared provides hence my investment in this fast-growing business.”

CEO of GSquared, Andy McGlynn, said: “I have worked in fitness for 20 years and it is no exaggeration to say that this opening is the culmination of my life’s work.

“GSquared is going to transform the gym experience for people who want luxury, want a truly personalised service and don’t mind paying a little bit more.”
