1,000 home mixed use scheme on former station site gains consent

Proposals to build a 1,000-home high-rise development on the site of Leeds’ first railway station have won approval.

Real estate investor and developer Rushbond Group, working with residential development firm Gold and Amber, has put forward the scheme for the eastern side of Leeds’ city centre. The application was first submitted in the summer of 2019.

The development will be known as Leeds City Village and will create a new community at the former Goods Yard between Marsh Lane and Shannon Street.

City planners have given a green light for more than 1,000 homes, along with a mix of commercial, leisure and amenity space.

Lees City Village will feature five blocks ranging in height from 12 to 22 storeys, accommodating 1,012 apartments in total.

And there will be a village green, offering a children’s play area, recreational seating and a drinking fountain.

The project has been designed by Brewster Bye Architects and will complement Rushbond’s investments and projects in the Kirkgate District, including the Corn Exchange and First White Cloth Hall.

Works are due to begin on site this year and finish in 2026.
