Doncaster Sheffield Airport voted UK’s best despite imminent closure

Doncaster Sheffield Airport has been named the best UK airport for travellers by Which? despite it being set to close for being “financially unviable”.

The airport topped the consumer champion’s survey for the fourth consecutive time, after almost 7,500 Which? members were asked to rate their experiences at UK airports over the past two years.

The airport is due to shut down imminently, with the last flight departing in the next few weeks. Doncaster Sheffield Airport finished above the likes of Liverpool John Lennon and Exeter Airport in the list.

The airport was praised by customers for short queues, friendly staff and “faultless service”.

Yesterday Doncaster’s Mayor Ros Jones instructed the council to begin legal action against Peel, the airport’s owner, to prevent the removal of critical assets.

She said there had been a credible offer put forward to Peel to purchase the site.
