Successful adaptation boosts turnover and headcount at agency

Leeds-based creative experiences agency, XSEM, is closing in on a 150% increase in turnover.

The growth this year will position it to deliver £9.1m in revenue before the end of 2022.

XSEM says it faced a tough period over 2020 and 2021, with operations marred by the impact of the pandemic.

But the business adapted by developing a digital platform offering, delivering high-profile virtual events.

The success of the digital service line led to the company hosting the PPG Fast Forward Conference 2022. The event was produced from three different studios in the UK, Europe and the US, and viewed remotely across 14 countries.

In the last 18 months, the business has more than doubled its headcount from 16 members of staff to 37, appointing positions predominantly in the operations and creative team, alongside new client services director, Emily Podesta who joined the team this summer, with over 12 years’ experience in the industry.

Agency managing director and co-founder, Dan Bardgett, said: “We have a great team behind us, and they are the heart of our success this past year.

“We’re focused on ensuring our team feels valued. We have invested significantly in well-being programmes, training sessions, and new care initiatives. It is important the team feel rewarded for the incredible work they have delivered to get us where we are today.”

Throughout the last 12 months, XSEM has picked up several new client wins, including SamsungdoTerra and SIG, as well as expanding its services within existing accounts.

Bardgett added: “We’re extremely proud of the client successes XSEM has had this year. We’ve built the trust of our existing clients across a range of services, allowing us to launch new, engaging experiential and brand activations.”

The agency will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year and is forecasting further business growth, new roles and an office move to larger premises in Leeds city centre.
