People: Rollits; Parklane Plowden Chambers; Miller Homes Yorkshire; and more

A lawyer with more than 20 years of dispute resolution experience has joined law firm Rollits LLP as an associate based in the York office.

Emma Farrell, who lives in York, draws on an extensive background of advising in all areas of commercial and general civil disputes.

She will work with colleagues in the firm’s Hull office on matters including commercial contracts, insurance, professional indemnity, product liability, consumer protection, intellectual property, data protection and debt recovery.

Farrell graduated from Oxford University with a BA Hons in Jurisprudence and qualified in 2003 before spending the first 10 years of her career working in the Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution team within one of Ireland’s leading law firms in Dublin.

She was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in England and Wales in 2010 and moved to Yorkshire where she has spent the last 12 years working in general practice.

She said: “I love living in York and I’m very excited about now working in the city with a forward thinking law firm which has earned a reputation for excellence across all its activities.”

Leeds and Newcastle-based Parklane Plowden Chambers has welcomed a new tenant to its 40-plus strong family team.

Naomi Hartridge, who was called to the Bar in 2017, specialises in both public and private work in relation to family matters.

She joins from Leeds-based Spire Barristers where she practiced for five years. She initially qualified as a solicitor in 1999, specialising in white-collar crime in Harley Street, London.

Her public law practice has seen her instructed in complex multi-sibling and placement matters on behalf of parents, children and local authorities. She has also represented vulnerable clients in the High Court in cases involving secure accommodation applications.

Within her private law practice, Hartridge advises in matters involving parental alienation, international relocation, non-accidental injury, sexual offences and other contact and parenting issues.

She said: “Parklane Plowden’s family practice has an outstanding reputation and a clear growth plan.

Miller Homes Yorkshire has appointed a new regional head of operations as its 2023 strategic growth plans get underway.

Justin Tranmere has been promoted from commercial director to operations director at Miller Homes in Wakefield and will oversee the day-to-day operational activities of the business, its team, and the delivery of its growth plan.

He said: “It’s an exciting time to be at Miller Homes and the Yorkshire region is in a strong position, having contracted on, and purchased, a number of fantastic developments in recent months in some of the best locations in Yorkshire.

Leanne Barnham

Brooks Macdonald, an investment manager with £16.2bn in funds under management, has made a trio of appointments in its senior team.

Leanne Barnham will shortly be joining in the newly created global head of marketing role.

Reporting to Sarah Ackland, global head of distribution & marketing, Barnham will be responsible for driving the marketing strategy and execution, supporting Brooks Macdonald’s medium term ambition to become a top five wealth manager within the UK and Crown Dependencies.

She has more than 15 years in investment management and brings a deep knowledge of marketing in the sector.

She joins from Ninety One where she was head of UK marketing. She was previously global head of marketing with Architas Multi-Manager and, in addition, has held marketing roles at several investment management houses.

Andrew Bennie

Ackland said: “Leanne’s experience and proven industry expertise make her a perfect fit to lead the marketing team as we move into our next phase of growth. I am very much looking forward to working with Leanne to continue to drive forward the firm’s proposition.”

Andrew Bennie and Rachael Marsden have been appointed as the heads of investment management for Manchester and Leeds, respectively.

These appointments recognise the important role they have played as part of the Manchester and Leeds teams.

Bennie has been a part of Brooks Macdonald for 13 years and last year was promoted to senior investment director.

He has a demonstrated history of managing bespoke investment portfolios on behalf of a range of private clients.

Rachael Marsden

Marsden joined Brooks Macdonald in 2019 and was promoted to senior investment director last year. She has more than 15 years’ experience in managing portfolios for advisers, private clients, charities, companies, trusts and pensions.
