City centre deli to open with backing from Government grant

A new delicatessen is coming to Hull’s Princes Dock Street, thanks to money from the Levelling Up Fund (LUF).

Watalot Ltd will refit the ground, first and second floors of 17 Princes Dock Street, using the £92,500 grant which the business has matched for a total project cost of £185,000.

The refurbishment will see the ground floor turned into the delicatessen outlet/shop unit with a tenant selling specialist foods, while the first and second floors will become two rental studios and one two-bedroomed rental apartment.

The funding, from monies awarded to Hull City Council in 2021 by the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), will see the building stripped and refitted across all floors, with new internal and external decoration, repairs to box sash windows as well as new heating, lighting, electrical and plumbing systems.

The project will bring over 3,000 sq ft of space back into use and create new jobs.

Councillor Paul Drake-Davis, Hull City Council’s portfolio holder for regeneration, said: “Princes Dock Street is already a vibrant part of the old town and this will be a great addition to it.

“LUF continues to provide excellent opportunities for new businesses to flourish across the city centre.”
