Artisan bakery and coffee house to launch at zero carbon development

A bakery and speciality coffee house is to open in Little Kelham, Sheffield.

Bakers Yard Bakery has been founded by Sheffield couple Sam Lindsay and Becca Crofts who aim to establish their latest enterprise following the success of their micro wholesale business which supplies cafes and coffee shops.

The duo have more than 30 years’ experience in artisanal food, bakery and patisserie production and combine their love of food with a passion for sustainable business practices and using local suppliers where possible.

Little Kelham, a zero carbon neighbourhood transformed by property company CITU, welcomed its first residents in 2015. More than 250 homes are now occupied and the neighbourhood also accommodates at least 10 businesses.

Lindsay said: “No 1 Bakers Yard was such an obvious choice for us in terms of the amazing space available but also the vision and passion we share with CITU and the whole community at Little Kelham, where people want to live and work more sustainably.”

Chris Thompson, founder of CITU, said: “Sam and Becca have achieved success without compromising on quality or their commitment to reducing their business’s impact on the planet.

“They are the perfect occupier for No 1 Bakers Yard and we’re pleased they have committed long term to the growing Kelham community.”

Originally named Nourriture Bespoke, the business has now been rebranded as Bakers Yard Bakery and will continue to supply its wholesale clients from the new premises, secured on a 10-year lease.

Crofts added: “The success of the wholesale business gave us the confidence to look for physical premises.

“We knew we were doing something different that people really liked and that gave us the momentum to go and look for a permanent base.”

As well as a coffee house, Bakers Yard Bakery will also be home to a retail section that will stock produce and ingredients sourced from sustainable local suppliers.

With finishing interior touches now taking place, Bakers Yard Bakery is set to open in April.
